Jackie O receives COVID test results during radio show

Over the weekend, a dancer from the show returned a positive coronavirus test. Since then, six additional cases have been confirmed.

Radio host and Masked Singer panellist Jackie O discussed the turn of events on the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning, as she isolates in Melbourne.

Jackie explained she was in her dressing room an hour-and-a-half away from filming the grand finale of the show, before Network 10’s executive producer Stephen Tate knocked on her door and told her the bad news.

While other Masked Singer panellists nervously await their test results, Jackie received a text message from the COVID-19 response team in Melbourne during her radio show this morning revealing she tested negative.

“I was actually panicking inside all last night, so I am so happy about that,” she told Kyle on the show. “I woke up last night and I had really sore throat and then I couldn’t get back to sleep.”

However, she explained how she and the other panellists are usually quite separate from

the dancers on set, both having their own areas.

“We are all in different quarters of the set, so you have Hughsey, Dannii (Minogue) Urzila (Carlson) and I in one area … and then you have your dancers in another area. You can still get to that area, but we don’t really go to that area. Then you have Osher’s area.”

With the grand finale being interrupted, some viewers have been led to believe that the show isn’t airing anymore, however that is not the case.

“The show is still airing,” explained Jackie. “Tonight, and tomorrow night … and the next few weeks. It’s just one show that wasn’t filmed, but we will find a way to bring you the finale. We just don’t know what that looks like yet.”

Speaking on the Fefe, Fev & Byron radio show this morning, fellow Masked Singer judge Dave Hughes also discussed how it all went down.

“We had nearly filmed the whole series in Melbourne. Stage 4 lockdown didn’t start until we were in the middle of production, so that’s the only reason we were able to continue with production, but Saturday was the grand finale, it was our last day of filming.

“We got there. I walked into the makeup room and saw all the other panellists were there and I said: ‘Guys, lock the door we made it through. We are going to make it till the end.’

“Twenty minutes later we were called into a meeting saying we haven’t got through … they’re blaming me for jinxing them now.”

Hughes said his thoughts were with the seven dancers who had contracted the virus.

“All our thoughts are with the people who have been tested positive. The dancers have been doing their job. It’s tough. They’re not sleeping at the studio; they are sleeping at hotels close to the studio. I don’t know how they got it.”

Contract tracers are now trying to figure out how the dancers first came into contact with coronavirus, and all the panellists have been tested.

“I had my test yesterday I am self-isolating at home,” he continued. “I will get results back today.”

Hughes said he was unsure whether the show will be finished or not.

“Hopefully we can do it this week. The grand finale is all we have got to do so it’s an hour of TV left in the series I hope we can do it this week. But is there a chance we can never do it? Who knows?”

The shutdown has also affected the Nine Network quiz show Million Dollar Hot Seat , which shared some facilities with The Masked Singer during filming.
